Claude Monet painted ‘The Poppy Field near Argenteuil’ (1873) on his return from the UK. I began painting this dresser on my return from the UK in August, a quiet coincidence perhaps?

I like my pieces to tell a story – and I think Monet paints a story so well. My goal is to make a piece of furniture look as though I never painted it – that it is in its original condition. Overtime, I build on thin layers to create an authentic patina. I want a piece to look old and worn, misused, cherished, ravaged by the passing of time; and, because of that, I painstakingly add flaws to it (always embracing the ‘natural’ occurring ones).
I’ve used a soft palette of aged cream and pale blue to compliment the painting, and aged gold leaf to enhance the trim work. There are small areas that are missing trim – these types of flaws I tend to enhance, rather than repair.

The dresser is solidly constructed, with a small top drawer, large bottom drawer, and five pull out drawers behind the two front doors. Measurements are approx: 36″ Wide x 53″ High x 24″ Deep.

This is truly a one-of-a-kind piece of art – a statement piece that commands attention in any room, whether it be living room, bedroom, or office. An elegant, classically-designed piece that encompasses the light, breezy feels of the romantic French countryside that we often dream about.
