Description

Hand painted vintage radio cabinet, featuring ‘L’Aurore (Dawn) by French artist, William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1881).

Long after they’ve served their original function, radio cabinets are usually stripped of their radios and discarded. Perhaps they’re seen as an empty shell, no longer useful – maybe even ‘unsightly’? I’ve been in love with these pieces of furniture for years; and I’ve been fortunate enough to bring many back to left, sans radio equipment. The serve as beautiful reminders of a bygone age – a time when families gathered in front of the radios waiting to hear the latest news and songs.

The radio of this little cabinet has long been removed. However, behind the two doors there are two shelves, making this a fabulous storage unit.

My goal refinishing this piece was to showcase the beautiful French painting. I also wanted to preserve the beautiful birdseye veneer. I wanted it to look delicate, yet time-worn. It’s also important to me that the image appears to be original to the piece. I never want my pieces to look refinished and fresh, and so I like to embrace texture, and patina, and believe very . I also tend to showcase the knicks and dents that each individual piece has, I see perfection in authentic flaws.

For this piece, I choose muted green and blush pink. While it’s quite a traditional piece, I think it will look at home in many styles of home, from traditional to French Country to Contemporary. It’s an incredibly beautiful piece.

Measurements are approx: 24.5″ Wide x 42″ High x 13.5″Deep
