I feel as though I haven’t sat down and wrote on the website for such a long time.
I’m not an ‘official’ blogger and to be perfectly truthful, I’m always a little worried that my emails to you all are annoying, or intrusive, or just plain boring – or maybe all three!
So I’ve decided that I will only post things that are actually meaningful, or perhaps have some educational value, or insight. At least that way, I feel comfortable knowing that I’m not sharing just to share – and that hopefully the post has some value to it.
So – here’s my first blog post of the year – and I’m actually reviewing a new (to me) paint line.
Generally speaking, I don’t accept free product (unless it’s been highly recommended to me by a fellow painter) because what if I don’t like it? What if someone asks me to share my thoughts on the product and I have to give a negative feedback? How awful, I don’t want to be in that position.
And I can’t lie.
I’m not selling my soul for a can of paint.
At the end of last year, a friend (and painting colleague) asked if I wanted to try a few products that she’s been using from Wise Owl Paints. I honestly didn’t jump at the chance because …(eh, see above).
And I politely reminded her that
‘Look, I’m from Yorkshire; I’m a ‘straight-shooter’. I’m loud and opinionated, and if I don’t like something I’ll have to tell you’.
Finally, I agreed to try them out – on the condition that if I didn’t like it I would have to be brutally honest. She accepted my condition (as did the owners of Wise Owl), and the general consensus was that I would love the products.
Realistically, it could go one of three ways: I would hate the products. I would love the products. Or I would just be unimpressed by them (which is, essentially in my mind, just as bad as hating them).
Wise Owl sent me a bunch of products to play with:

A very generous package I will admit. I did ask that if they were going to send paint could they please not send sample sizes. Not being greedy, but there is no way that I could do a complete piece of furniture using sample sizes, and I really wanted to do a complete piece to test everything!
How did the products far? Well, the proof is in the puddin’.
This is the piece that I started with; a buffet that I found on Craigslist, likely from the 30/40’s, solid but very simple.![]()
And this is what I ended up with.

I couldn’t be more pleased with it!

The image transfer is of Florence, Italy (Oil painting by Thomas Cole). It reminds me that I need to visit there 🙂

A beautiful mix of the colors, the grey at the bottom is the Gray Linen.

Now the trim moldings pop out, instead of being hidden away with the rest of the wood grain.

I think this may be my favorite photo. I love the blend of wood and paint.

The warm brown hue you see is shellac, because I’m a sucker for shellac.
Rather than write about the product I thought I’d do something a little different and do a Facebook Live! and actually talk about everything.
