I like to think of my pieces as not just furniture – but as storyboards; each one telling their own history. September Morn happened by mistake. In my mind’s eye, the piece was going to have sunflowers on it. But unfortunately (or fortunately) I couldn’t find a painting with the right dimensions. And so I stopped, and started looking at the blank canvas and wondering what it was trying to tell me. And then the vision of September Morn by Paul Chabas appeared. And the story started being told. I wanted to work with mossy greens and soft yellows. Lots of textures, lots of variance. A piece of furniture that would be compelling and soothing to look at. A piece of art that showed years and years of wear; of being put into the sunshine, perhaps too much, perhaps then moved into a darker corner to collect years of grim. A piece well loved, so well loved that the copperleaf detailing had patinated over the years – and, it too, had it’s own variance of muted colors. It’s a beautiful piece. Yes, it started off as a Post-Depression Era cabinet. A solid piece of furniture that offered great storage. But it became so much more. It became its own story.

All of my pieces are truly one-of-a-kind. The process to adhere the images on to the piece of furniture is an intricate and time-consuming process. I DO NOT work with decoupage papers or rub-on transfers; my preferred technique involves transferring only the pigment of the image on to carefully multi-layered surfaces – resulting in a finish that reflects an authentic aged appearance.
