Description
This is a piece that commands attention in any room – it’s simply striking and unparalleled in quality. My goal is to allow the piece tell its story; and I want people to be drawn to it – to look at it closer, imagine the history behind it. Growing up in England, I came to love John Constable and his depictions of the English bucolic countryside (especially Suffolk which is very meaningful to me). I wanted to embrace the burl wood trim, but at the same time give the paintings a dark backdrop to showcase them. It produced a great marriage of the two.
The intention when refinishing a piece is to make it look as though it was never refinished; that ‘my’ version is the original version. Due to this approach, the buffet has been purposefully aged, and flaws appreciated. My finishes are faded and time-worn. I work with both chalk paint and glazes, using very thin layers to gain a sense of depth and movement to the finish. The buffet showcases Constable’s ‘The Cornfield’ (1826), featuring a young shepherd boy drinking from a pool in Dedham, Essex, and complemented it with ‘Flatford Mill’ (Scene on a Navigable River) (1816) a working rural scene from Suffolk.
It’s elegant, with traditional lines and more importantly, it feels very English with French undertones. It’s a very versatile piece and could adorn a dining room (it has a velvet lined cutlery drawer), or be equally suited in a library, living room, or office. It will be the focal point of any room and a piece that, hopefully, will be handed down from generation to generation.
It’s a grand substantial piece of art; measuring approx 𝟕𝟎” 𝐖𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐗 𝟐𝟏” 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐗 𝟑𝟖” 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 and solid. There are a few blemishes on the top, which I have chosen to embrace rather than hide; again, my purpose is to have my pieces look authentically worn, not newly refinished. This is a heritage piece: it’s aged and gloriously flawed and if you have a room that can accommodate the sheer awesomeness of it, I encourage you to reach out to me.
Local pickup from Portland, Oregon is greatly appreciated. Shipping is NOT included in the listing price. If shipping is needed I am more than happy to work with you on getting shipping reasonable quotes for you.
